Climbing on K2

The team climbed to Camp 2 on K2 yesterday! The weather is still unsettled, but they made their way up the Cesan route with a mix of snow and sun. This morning there was 6 inches of fresh snow at base camp. Andy Selters and Chuck Boyd returned to base camp yesterday, while Dave Watson spent the night at Camp 2. Dave was safely back to base camp this morning.

As they came off the mountain, they were greeted on the glacier with hot tea by Muna, the cook, and his helper. It snowed on and off all day and the winds picked up on the mountain. It was partly cloudy by nightfall.

Andy is leaving early tomorrow morning with two porters carrying double loads to Concordia where additional porters should be available. There’s some question whether they’ll be able to carry all of what should go back with Andy.

They know they’ve been out for a long time as the second full moon approaches…
